  L'équanimité
  FRT003 (2008)

4d is the musical project of Dominick Lareau. Lareau, who is a teacher, a painter, an illustrator, a musician, a multidisciplinary artist, has established himself in Nunavik a couple of years ago. Teaching in Puvirnituq and in Inukjuak had Lareau experience the realities of the Inuit community on a daily basis. Their difficulties and their courage as well inspired his most recent work. While 4d's first effort sounded like an incursion into the subconscious of a troubled childhood, L’équanimité, is the logical sequel, when adolescence tests your ability to cope with adversity and to emerge to adult life.

On this album, he manages to explore a large palette, ranging from traditional throat singing to raw punk rock riffs, inverted tracks, staggering beats, electronics, and chemical ambiances. The lyrical content deals with themes of doubt, violence, polar bears and death. But in the end, every song has its glimmer of light, discreet and beautiful, emerging from under the chaotic and confused waves of sound, just as the title, L'équanimité, suggests.
